Felsőcsatár Greenschist with Quartz Veins – Felsőcsatár, Vas County, Hungary

This striking greenschist specimen comes from the classic Zöldpala Formation of Felsőcsatár, one of Hungary’s best-known metamorphic localities. The piece displays beautifully defined banding in rich earthy tones—deep green, brown and bronze—created by layers of chlorite, epidote, and actinolite. Cutting through the foliation are contrasting milky quartz veins, adding strong visual texture and revealing the dynamic metamorphic history of the rock.

This specimen represents classic greenschist facies metamorphism, where ancient oceanic volcanic rocks were transformed under low-grade regional metamorphic conditions. The result is a highly attractive, structurally complex piece that appeals to collectors of metamorphic rocks and Hungarian geology.

Origin: Felsőcsatár (Zöldpala Mine), Vas County, Hungary
Rock type: Greenschist (Zöldpala)
Features: Well-preserved foliation, quartz vein banding, rich colour zoning
Size: ~12(L) x 7(H) x 5(W) cm (see scale cube), 705 g

A distinctive and unusual specimen, ideal for collectors seeking authentic Hungarian metamorphic rocks or visually rich teaching pieces.
